Invisalign Q & A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses clear, retainer-like thermoplastic aligners that are custom-made to fit over your teeth and apply a controlled force that creates tooth movement.
Since the aligners are clear and removable, it helps make treatment discreet and convenient. Since the aligners are easily removable, there’s no need to worry about getting food stuck inside bulky metal brackets.
How does Invisalign treatment work?
When you start Invisalign treatment, Dr. Nassiri, who is a certified Invisalign provider, can create a detailed plan that outlines how your teeth will shift into proper alignment. You will then receive your first set of removable, clear aligners, that you must wear at least 22 hours per day in order to ensure optimal results. However, you’re allowed to take them out when you eat and brush your teeth.
Every few weeks, you’ll receive a new set of slightly adjusted aligners that will help continue the movement of your teeth. Each new set of aligners is tighter than the set worn you wore before. The increased tightness helps continue the gradual tooth movement that occurs over the course of treatment. When you come in for check-ups during treatment, Dr. Nassiri checks on the progress of your tooth movement and makes sure everything is going smoothly.
Why should I consider Invisalign?
The benefits of Invisalign extend beyond enhancing the appearance of your smile. Straightening your teeth is good for your oral health, too. Straight teeth, as opposed to crooked teeth, are much easier to keep clean and less prone to plaque buildup and decay.
Straightening your smile with Invisalign is also a far more discreet option than traditional orthodontic techniques, such as metal braces. Since the aligners are clear, you won’t draw unwanted attention to your smile during treatment. That means you can smile with confidence during treatment.
How long does treatment with Invisalign take?
The length of your treatment plan with Invisalign can depend on the position and alignment of your teeth. If you only have minor orthodontic problems, Dr. Nassiri may recommend that you may need to wear Invisalign aligners for less than a year, or only a few months. If you have more severe orthodontic problems, it may be recommended for a year or more of treatment.
Treatment with Invisalign takes about 12 months on average, and is typically faster than conventional orthodontics.
